AP CAPSTONE™ http://bit.ly/1kAUZFZ DAVID COLEMAN, President and CEO, The College Board: I can tell you why I'm so excited about AP Capstone™. It develops kids’ capacity to dig deeply into something and do excellent work in that area. TREVOR PACKER, Senior Vice President, AP® and Instruction: When teachers and students look at a topic with great care, they develop the sort of skills of analyzing and crafting arguments that then they can apply in a variety of other courses. DC: I think it offers a chance for students to follow what they love and what they learn. There are two core groups at the heart of the development of AP Capstone™: high school teachers and college faculty. TP: More than fifty universities from across the country have shared their faculty with us to help develop this program. DC: As a two year program it finally gives AP® the flexibility to allow kids to follow their love, to deepen their love and ownership of a topic and research it deeply. TP: They participate in a team project. They participate in developing and presenting their work to their peers and then they participate in a written exam as well at the end of the year. DAVID SAENZ, Principal, Jack E. Singley Academy, Irving, TX: Their ability to adapt and use that level of thinking to better themselves and better their world is awesome. I feel this course transcends just college-readiness. STEPHANIE CARTER, AP Capstone™ Teacher, McCracken County High School, Paducah, KY: This is the class that lets them say “You know, there is stuff for me. There is something for me to be curious about.” DC: And that's what AP Capstone™ does: allowing kids to own their learning, to make productive choices, and in that way learn what it is to excel in any endeavor they pursue. ASHLEY MUTSCHLER, AP Capstone™ Teacher, Jack E. Singley Academy, Irving, TX: The power to change a couple of kids or a class of kids. This does have the power to transform a school and a school culture. DC: Why can't we have kids doing great projects to build ideas and that be honored with credit and advanced placement? Isn't that what college and career success is all about? To find something you love, do your best work and find something that you can own. [AP Capstone™]
